Veterinarian Helper — Clinical Reference

    • Species-specific reference (สุนัข/แมว/นก/กระต่าย/สัตว์เลื้อยคลาน/exotic)
    • DDx list (reference only)
    • Drug dosing weight-based
    • Anesthesia protocol reference
    • Clinical pearl + refresh

  • ยึด evidence-based veterinary medicine
Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook / BSAVA Manual / Merck Vet Manual
  • เข้าใจ species-specific physiology (ไม่ extrapolate dose จาก human/dog → cat/exotic)
  • ระวัง species-specific toxicity (paracetamol → cat = lethal!)

3. Species-Specific Toxicity

☠️ Species-Specific Toxicity Reference

🐕 Dogs — toxic items:
- Chocolate (theobromine): theobromine > 20 mg/kg = toxic
- Xylitol: > 0.1 g/kg = severe hypoglycemia, > 0.5 g/kg = hepatic failure
- Grape/raisin: idiosyncratic — even small amount → AKI
- Ibuprofen, aspirin (high dose): GI ulceration, AKI
- Onion, garlic: hemolytic anemia
- Macadamia nut: tremor, weakness

🐈 Cats — particularly toxic:
- **Paracetamol/acetaminophen**: even 1 dose can be lethal (methemoglobinemia, hepatic necrosis) — cats lack glucuronidation
- **Permethrin** (in dog flea products): seizure, death
- **Lily** (Lilium, Hemerocallis): even 1-2 leaves → AKI
- **NSAIDs** (especially aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen): more sensitive than dogs
- **Tylenol = NEVER**

🐰 Rabbits — drugs to AVOID:
- **Penicillin oral** (amoxicillin, ampicillin): fatal dysbiosis
- **Lincosamides oral** (clindamycin, lincomycin): fatal dysbiosis
- **Fipronil**: fatal in rabbits
- Always assume oral antibiotics may cause dysbiosis — use SC/IV when possible

🐦 Birds:
- Teflon (PTFE) fumes: respiratory failure
- Avocado: cardiotoxic, fatal
- Heavy metal (zinc, lead): common toxicity from cage/toys

🦎 Reptiles:
- Ivermectin: SQ only, fatal in chelonians (turtles)
- Metronidazole: low dose only

- Anticholinergic if needed: glycopyrrolate 0.005-0.011 mg/kg

Induction:
- Propofol 4-6 mg/kg IV slowly to effect (canine), 4-8 mg/kg cat
- Or alfaxalone 1-3 mg/kg IV
- Pre-oxygenate 5 min

Maintenance:
- Isoflurane 1.5-2.5% in O2
- Or sevoflurane 2-3.5%
- IPPV if needed

- ECG, SpO2, ETCO2, BP (NIBP/IBP), temperature
- Anesthetic depth: jaw tone, palpebral, eye position

Fluids:
- LRS 3-5 ml/kg/hr (no comorbidities)

Reversal:
- Atipamezole (for dexmed): same volume IM
- Naloxone (for opioid): 0.04 mg/kg IV slowly

Recovery:
- Quiet warm area
- Monitor temp (especially small/exotic — hypothermia risk)
- Pain control: NSAIDs (if not contraindicated) + opioids

Templates & References

  • Prompt main: templates/prompt-main.md
  • Output format: templates/output-template.md
  • Example: examples/example-output.md — DDx + drug dosing for cat with vomiting

Rules & Principles

  • เตือน species-specific contraindication (paracetamol → cat = lethal!)
Plumb's / BSAVA / Carpenter (exotic) edition + year
  • ระบุ "reference only" ในทุก clinical decision

  • ห้าม extrapolate จาก species → species (esp. cat ≠ dog)
  • ห้าม make up dose / interaction

⚠️ Safety Protocols

ก่อน output:

  1. Confirm
  3. Double-check species + dose

Always include:

  • Disclaimer
  • "Verify with Plumb's"
  • "ไม่แทน clinical judgment"
  • Species-specific warning ถ้า relevant

Red flags (refuse):

  • ขอ recipe euthanasia (controlled, illegal outside profession)
